JUDGEMENT CYCLE:
It is natural for us, as humans, to judge people, and of course, ourselves. Since it just happens without us even thinking about it. We take one look and in two seconds summarise our opinion of a whole person.
Judging is our way of identifying what we consider to be relevant information. We try to decide if the person approaching is a threat or friend. We also try to know if they’re somebody we don’t need to worry about.
This way of looking at people, making snap decisions, does make a lot of sense in a dangerous context. But in our daily lives, it can lead to an overly simplistic, and often incorrect reading of the people we meet.
If you have ever judged someone dismissively upon your very first sight of them. Afterwards, only to have them become a very good friend once you really got to know them, then you will understand the hazards of the judgement cycle.
If you’ve ever judged someone negatively at first sight, you’ll understand the dangers of this judgment cycle. We all have prejudices that cloud our initial perceptions. But when you overcome these prejudices and take the time to really get to know them, amazing things can happen. What seemed like an insurmountable chasm can turn into a deep friendship.
This experience is a poignant reminder that true understanding goes beyond appearances. Just as the cover of a book doesn’t tell the whole story, a person’s appearance doesn’t reflect the fullness of their character. By challenging hasty judgments, we open ourselves up to the possibility of meaningful connections. In a world filled with diverse individuals, accepting this lesson will lead to better relationships and a more open life.
