The following are the historical events in the month of June:

  1. June 1, 1495: Friar John Cor recorded the first known batch of Scotch whiskey.
  2. June 3, 1937: The Duke of Windsor married his wife Wallis Simpson.
  3. June 4, 1944: Allied forces liberated Rome from Nazi control during World War II.
  4. June 5, 1968: Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in Los Angeles, California, while running for President of the United States.
  5. June 6, 1944: The D-Day invasion took place during World War II as Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy.
  6. June 7, 1654: Louis XIV was crowned king of France.
  7. June 8, 1783: Laki, a volcano in Iceland, erupted, causing widespread famine and disease both in the country and globally.
  8. June 9, 1973: Secretariat won horse racing’s Triple Crown.
  9. June 10, 323 BC: Alexander the Great, king of Macedon, died in Babylon.
  10. June 11, 1962: Three inmates escaped from Alcatraz prison.
  11. June 12, 1963: Civil rights leader Medgar Evers was assassinated outside his home in Jackson, Mississippi.
  12. June 13, 1231: Saint Anthony of Padua died.
  13. June 14, 1777: The Continental Army, under the guidance of General George Washington, defeated the British in the Battle of Bunker Hill.
  14. June 15, 1836: Arkansas became the 25th state to join the United States of America.
  15. June 16, 1963: Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to travel to space.
  16. June 17, 1579: Sir Francis Drake claimed a land he called “Nova Albion” (modern-day California) for England.
  17. June 18, 1815: The Battle of Waterloo also took place, in which Napoleon was defeated by the British and their allies.
  18. June 19, 1865: Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, marks the end of slavery in the United States.

You can as well view that historical great things took place in this month of June.
